The autumn Balaton invites you to relax
Has the seasonal-change frenzy got you too? Slow down for a second! A quiet little paradise awaits you in Zamárdi, where you can recharge your batteries and forget about the hustle and bustle of everyday life. September is one of the most beautiful months of autumn, so enjoy the sunshine and the refreshing atmosphere of Lake Balaton. Here’s what a nice early autumn break at Platán Hotel has in store for you.
Off-season – a smart choice for mindful travelers
In the off-season, prices are much more favourable, while the comfort at Platán Hotel remains unchanged. You’ll find soft beds, air-conditioned rooms with terraces, a beautiful green garden, sauna, pool, and a generous buffet breakfast included in the price.
Some people deliberately plan their holidays for September, as they can enjoy the same experiences at great prices. However, the off-season has other hidden advantages as well. There are fewer tourists, it’s easier to get a table for a special dinner, and you don’t have to queue at attractions. With fewer people around, even the sunsets feel more intimate.
At the same time, the off-season is not just the tail end of summer, but a period with its own character—a “slow living” season. Autumn at Lake Balaton is full of life, with restaurants open, the pleasant evening buzz, and the waterfront atmosphere offering the same holiday feeling as in high season, but with a more exclusive experience. The pace is slower, giving you time to truly savour the moment.
Tip: Autumn Reading Garden – dive into a good story under the plane trees! Imagine curling up by the pool with a cup of tea, the leaves of the plane trees slowly turning golden around you… and finally having time to get lost in a longer tale.
- We recommend two real “big reads” for September:
Lucinda Riley: Seven Sisters – seven volumes, thousands of pages, a family saga spanning continents and centuries. A series that reveals new secrets and emotions on every page. You find yourself reaching for the next volume before you know it…- Janka Fábián: Emma trilogy – three novels in one volume, following the extraordinary life of a woman who experiences the storms of the 20th century, starting from the shores of Lake Balaton. First loves, losses, family heritage, and the twists of history all accompany Emma’s story, while we return again and again to her roots at Lake Balaton.

With a generous buffet breakfast, it’s easy to get in the mood for the day. Indicate your needs when booking, and we can also provide gluten-free, lactose-free, and sugar-free options.
The hotel’s Finnish sauna helps you relax: it warms you up, refreshes your body, and clears your mind, even your skin will thank you. After the sauna, unwind outdoors on a sun lounger, perhaps with a good book in hand – this is the perfect me-time.
Isn’t it wonderful when you can focus entirely on yourself?
The shore of Lake Balaton is just a few minutes’ walk from your accommodation. Zamárdi’s beach is famous for its stunning views. The panorama towards the Tihany Peninsula is breathtaking on its own, and even more so at sunset. Capture this visual paradise in photos, or bring a watercolor set and paint by the shore. No artistic skill is required – the joy of the activity and its meditative nature are what matter.

If you feel like going out and are drawn to the waves, you can include a ferry trip in your itinerary. In September, scheduled services run every 30 minutes between nearby Szántód and Tihany. In the evening, return to Zamárdi for an excellent dinner at one of the long-established local restaurants.
Autumn with a thousand faces in Zamárdi
Zamárdi and its surroundings are full of opportunities for active relaxation. You can hike on nearby nature trails, climb up lookout towers for a bird’s-eye view of Lake Balaton’s autumn panorama, or explore the lakeside routes by bike – you can even rent a bike at Platán Hotel.
